Martin has gained wide experience in a range of areas of law. He previously worked for Philips International, where he was involved in aspects of competition law relating to international mergers, joint ventures and acquisitions. More recently Martin has focused on litigation and advice in the area of company law and Dutch and European competition law. He has also regularly acted as liquidator and administrator. Martin has advised and represented clients in connection with competition law matters before the European Courts in Luxembourg (Court of Justice of the European Union and General Court), the Dutch civil and administrative Courts, the European Commission and the Dutch Antitrust Authority.

Past work in the cartel enforcement area

Martin was lead counsel for plaintiffs in the CEF v FEG case, leading to a substantial compensation for the client after various court proceedings both before the Dutch and the European courts. He was also involved in the landmark case IJsselcentrale and Almelo, also leading to a substantial compensation being paid to the clients after various national and European proceedings.

Background

Martin is a member of the Amsterdam Bar. He has been active as a lawyer since 1984 and is established in Brussels since 2010. He owns a master’s degree in European Judicial Studies (European Institute of Public Administration - The European Centre for Judges and Lawyers – Maastricht, 1990/1991).

Languages

Martin speaks Dutch, English and German, has a reasonable command of the French and a basic command of the Portuguese language.
